Gregory John Chaitin is visiting professor in the Graduate Program on Epistemology and History of Science and Technology at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (COPPE/UFRJ), Brazil, and honorary professor at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. He proved the Gödel-Chaitin Incompleteness Theorem and is the discoverer of the remarkable Omega number, having been awarded honorary doctorates from the University of Córdoba and the University of Maine. He was researcher of the Thomas Watson Research Center of IBM, New York, USA. He is member of the Brazilian Academy of Philosophy (ABF) and of the Académie Internationale de Philosophie de Sciences (AIPS). His areas of interest are mathematics, computer science and philosophy of science. Currently he is attempting to create a mathematical theory of evolution and biological creativity, based on considering life as evolving software.
